5 of the best small motorhomes under 6m
Small motorhomes provide the perfect getaway option for couples to enjoy an impromptu break.
In the UK, any motorhome under 6m is considered small. In addition to being lighter and more maneuverable than most larger models, a 6m motorhome will fit into a standard parking space, onto most campsite pitches and maybe even your drive.
Small motorhomes are also more likely to weigh under 3.5 tonnes - so anyone with a standard driving license can drive them.
A fantastic selection of small motorhomes are readily available on the second-hand market, so join us as we take a look at 5 of the best;
1. Adria Matrix Axess 590
The Adria Matrix Axess 590 offers a large lounge, spacious kitchen and practical washroom. Although this motorhome is a 4-berth, we think that it’s better served as a comfy tourer for two, with occasional visits from the grandchildren!
The layout of the Adria Matrix Axess 590 centres around the drop-down roof bed, which allows for a good-sized lounge, kitchen and washroom. Swivelled cab seats turn to face a half-dinette, with a long sofa opposite. The rear kitchen is compact, but contains all of the essentials including a hob, sink, microwave and fridge/freezer as standard. The washroom features a large wet-room floor with a shower mixer and concertina screens to protect the door and loo area.
Given the short overall length, it’s no surprise that the Adria Matrix Axess 590 is easy to handle with good manoeuvrability.

2. Bailey Compact 540
The 2-berth Bailey Compact 540 provides the perfect layout for couples who want to combine comfortable touring with activities like mountain biking or kayaking. The huge garage (with large rear fixed double bed mounted high above) provides plenty of storage for all of your hobbies. It’s easy to access from both sides, as well as from inside the motorhome.
With a panoramic sunroof and rooflight, the Bailey Compact 540 feels lovely and bright - and there’s plenty of ambient spot lighting too. Swivelled cab seats turn to face an extendable table with bench seat (seating for 4 in total). The corridor kitchen isn’t huge, but all of the essentials are there. In contrast to the kitchen, the washroom opposite is surprisingly roomy for a small motorhome, with a wet-room floor with Ecocamel showerhead and a shower curtain to prevent the loo and sink from getting too wet.
For two people, the Bailey Compact 540 is a neat motorhome, with lots of clever storage options and a large fixed bed – a rare luxury in a small motorhome.
