Benefits of buying from a Motorhome Dealer

Buying a Motorhome - Motorhome Dealer v Private Seller

It's the age-old question, would you be better off buying from a motorhome dealer or a private seller?

Whilst it's true that motorhome dealers are sometimes more expensive than buying from a private seller, here at Sedgemoor Caravans in Somerset we believe that there are several benefits to buying from a motorhome dealer.

6 Reasons why buying from a motorhome dealer is better than a private sale

1. At a motorhome dealer all motorhomes are inspected before they are sold

We inspect all incoming motorhomes before they are listed for sale at our Somerset showground and all of our motorhomes receive a full PDI service and habitation check at our AWS-accredited workshop before they leave.

If you buy a motorhome from a private seller, it is likely to be 'sold as seen'. The current owner is not obligated to have the motorhome checked or serviced and they do not have to disclose any potential issues to the new owner.

2. At a motorhome dealer all motorhomes are sold with a warranty

All of our motorhomes for sale come with a standard warranty. So, in the unlikely event that you experience an issue with your new motorhome, you will be protected.

Private sellers do not generally offer any type of warranty. As soon as you take ownership of your new motorhome you are responsible for all repairs or maintenance work.

3. Motorhome dealers may offer finance

We can help customers find financing for our motorhomes. We work with specialist lenders, Close Brothers and Pegasus Finance, to get our customers the best possible rates so that they can afford their dream motorhome.

Private sellers usually require payment in full 'up front'. Payment options may also be limited - lots of private sellers prefer cash payments. If you buy from a motorhome dealer a variety of different payment options will be available and it's likely that you will be able to pay a deposit to reserve your new motorhome.

4. Motorhome dealers will manage your trade-in

If you're considering upgrading or downsizing your current motorhome, a motorhome dealer is likely to offer trade-in options, saving you the time and trouble of having to sell yours.

If you buy from a private seller, you will also have to photograph and advertise your old motorhome for sale, manage viewings and (probably) haggle over the price!

5. Motorhome dealers have a selection of motorhomes for sale

Motorhome dealers usually have a selection of motorhomes for sale, so if you visit and the motorhome that you are interested in doesn't quite meet your expectations, you may find another one that does.

It's likely that a private seller will only have one motorhome for sale. So if it isn't everything that you're hoping for, you’ll have had a wasted journey.

6. Motorhome dealers provide after-sales support

Customer care is fundamental to our business. Before you leave our motorhome dealership with your new motorhome we will walk you through all of its features. If when you get home, you can’t remember where the spare wheel is located or how to control or program the heating system, we are just at the end of the telephone.

Some private sellers might not be so helpful!
